I bought the 12dBi antenna and the low-power USB Adapter (30mW)(no longer available) with antenna base and used it on a business trip to Thailand with my notebook computer. The antenna, base, and adapter are very portable for trips. I put the antenna up to the hotel window (4 stories on one room and 15 stories up on another room I stayed in) and was able to catch about 15 usable signals in the Sukhumvit Rd. area coming from up to 1-2 km away -- i.e. other hotels, restaurants, coffee shops, private residences. Approximately 3-4 were open and I was able to get good Internet access with download speeds of about 250-450 kBs on average, sometimes better.
I was also able to use Skype and got great voice connection, similar to a local overseas phone call. This saved me a lot of time and some money as I could do work in my room with having to move my laptop to a hotspot, or pay ridiculous prices for hotel wifi access, and I used Skype out at 2.3 cents a minute to call the U.S. Please note that I was using the older USB adapter, which only puts out about 30mW. The newer 200mW and 500mW adapters should really crank up the signals and do even better for you. I also use the antenna and adapter at home in the U.S. as a backup in case my landline Internet access goes down temporarily. I was tremendously happy with my WiFi-Link products and the company also provides great service by phone and email. They helped me get the right driver for my USB Adapter while I was in Thailand because I forgot to bring the CD-ROM disk with the drivers on it. I highly recommend WiFi Link products.
