Can see devices not so far away
Author Michael North Posted time 2009-12-01 03:17:46
Contents Hello,

My Brother and I live about 780ft away from each other, we both purchased the following (two of each):
OMNI 8dBi 2.4G + Lightning Protector + RSMA7m/23ft
or
http://www.wifi-link.com/product.php?action=product&class1_id=1&class2_id=50&class3_id=543&product_id=1466

It says it can go pretty far like 3900ft, however we can not see each other at all on the wireless and signals and even other wireless devices are low signals.

Here is a diagram of how far it is. Just a straight line 780FT:

There are Trees in between them but we have both our antennas high up on our houses. He has his connected to a linksys wrt54gl router and i have mine connected to a Linksys WMP600N wireless N PCI adapter on my server. We have tried all combinations of swapping the antenna ports on both our linksys and still i can't see his.

Is there any other device that might help us get these connected? I assume the trees is the problem, but now that we have purchased these two Obi's is there anything else left to buy or is it just a configuration issue on our end? Any ideas?

Thanks very much for your time

Regards,
Michael

Contents The main problem probably come from the router has different type,
The WRT54G which is 802.11 b/g type, the PCI wireless card which is 802.11n type.

If you don't mind could you please check the PCI card is working with 2.4G only or both 2.4 and 5G type.
If the PCI card is 2.4 and 5G together, then the Omni 8dBi antenna which is not suit for the wireless card.
Please check it first.

Also for the point to point setup it will get better wireless signal when you choose the directional antenna.

Thank you very much.
