Input Much Appricated - Goal to share a internet connection between 2 sites 1 mile apart.
Author AJSR Posted time 2009-05-30 19:31:06
Contents The basic setup is:
2 Linksys WRT54G routers running Tomato Firmware connecting using Access Point + WDS. The distance is about a mile or so apart.

I will have a total of 6 wireless clients in both sides to share my internet connection. What is the optimal antenna configuration I can setup to share the signals. Both sites have a few trees in between and there is not a clear line of sight.

Thank you in advance for anyone input.

Thank you in advance.

Contents The router has two antenna, normally it will be on transmit and receive and other one is receive only or transmit only.
You might check with Linksys to see which antenna is for what function then change the antenna to work with Yagi antenna.

If you are only transmit the signal and you do know which antenna is for transmit then you can just change one antenna.

However if you don't, you might test by yourself.

Thank you very much

Reply Yagi - Question Reply Time 2009-06-01 16:30:31
Contents So basically get a Yagi at the main site, does it make a difference since teh wrt54g has 2 antenna or 1 yagi will be just fine? Also do I need 1 or 2 Yagi between sights? or 1 Yagi and do you suggest a different anntena on the other side?

Contents We would like to know how big is the area that you would like to share the signal to your customer.

Then we can make the suggestion to you, at the moment working with tress we will suggest that you choose the Yagi 16dBi antenna. if not the clear line of sight it might be better you can setup the antenna in the higher place to get the better performance.

Thank you very much.
