I would like to know what is the best antenna I can buy for one end. I cant replace the antenna on the router which is located 5 houses away, but I can replace the antenna on my pci adapter. What type of antenna will give me the strongest signal. If I get a long distance antenna will I be able to see more than the 16 signals I see now?

If you know where is the signal from you can choose the directional antenna to receive the wireless signal, at the moment the highest gain we will have which is the GRID 24dBi antenna 2.4G,
however the higher gain antenna has the smaller receiving signal angle. when you choose this antenna probably you can not get more than 16 signals probably will be less than 16 siganl.
You can try the Panel antenna 14dBi 2.4G to receive the wireless signal which has bigger receiving signal range probably you can get more than 16 signal,
But when you try to connect with the wireless signal you can only use one wireless signal.
