DELL XPS M1710 Does the internal Wifi Mini Card use "MMCX connectors" for the built in aerial? (picture)
Author WiFiGuy Posted time 2006-08-01 06:02:20
Contents Hello All,

After a month I decided on a DELL XPS M1710

I just figured I would use my 200 mw SMC card with the XPS M1710.... right...

So now my option is to get the only wifi "ExpressCard"
(by dell of course (Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN 802.11g ExpressCard))

And try to mod it for an external aerial

Or try and hookup an external aerial to internal Wifi Mini Card

Here is a picture of the internal Wifi Mini Card

http://www.joe100.com/WifiMiniCard1.jpg

The parts circled in red by me look a lot like the MMCX connectors on my SMC card and my external aerial wire, If so it looks like it would be no big deal to plug my external aerial into the MMCX connectors on the internal Wifi Mini Card

Anyone who has had to deal with this please let me know, I don.t even know if the internal Wifi Mini Card works with netstumbler

You would think DELL would have a jack for this

Thanks

Joe

Contents I think it will be about 20cm,
Normally the cable length will depend on you,
I will suggest you get the longer cable lenght,
The cable is very soft probably it will still of for you.

Also thank you very much for you informaiton we will keep it.

Contents I found out it.s a Intel® PRO-Wireless 3945ABG

The specs in the PDF from Intel.s web site say it uses:

"Hirose* U.FL-R-SMT mates with cable connector U.FL-LP-066"

which one is that ? (15cm, 20cm, 30cm)

Here is a picture from another company.s PDF
(it shows all the specs of the connectors U.FL-LP-040,066,062,088)
You may want to keep the jpeg for reference, Very Nice Detail

Thanks Again

Contents At the first the connection probably is IPEX not the MMCX pleae check below website for the picture,

You can choose the same cable assembly to work with the other antennas which has the RP SMA male connection, you also can use other adapter cable to connect the outdoor antenna.

Thank you very much
