Question about two antennas on a wrt54g
Author Lawrence Posted time 2006-07-13 16:54:47
Contents I want to extend my wireless signal about 20KM away. I am using your 24dB parabolic grid antennas on each end which I believe will work, but on the remote end I want to rebroadcast the signal with the 15 dB omni antenna. Will the WRT54G switch between the two antennas as needed or will I need two routers? (I.m running dd-wrt)

Thank You,

Lawrence

Contents Hi Lawrence,

You will need two WRT-54g.s. Use the one attached to the grid antenna as a bridge to the one attched to the omni antenna. Use the DD-WRT firmware to disable the unused antenna on both routers and set tx and rx to the other antenna.

I hope this helps. If you need more advice you can contact me at sean@swarmhotspots.com and I.ll do my best to gelp. Good luck with your project.

Regards,

Sean Bracken

Contents If there is 20km with the Gird 24dbi antenna for the transmit, should be no problem, however you will still need the power booster to help the antenna.

Thank you very much.

Contents Regarding to your question,
For Omni 15dbi antenna probably will be difficult for 20km, This range of this antenna will be about 1.5km to 2km, 20km is to far for the Omni 15dbi antenna.

In the between the distance is still about 10km, the Omni antenna can.t work as this distance, probably you will need to choose other antennas.

So even you use the WRT54G Router the Omni antenna still not suit for this distance.

Thank you very much.
