500 mw USB Wifi adapter.
This Wifi adapter is the best of any PCI or USB type I have found. Compared to the best unit I have used before it has increased the signal strength from 40% to over 70% in one of my applications.
24 dBi Grid Antenna.
This antenna, with its 10 degree beam width, requires very careful aiming for best results. Used in conjunction with the 500 mw wifi adapter I am getting four solid bars of signal from a signal source more than a mile away!
12 dBi Panel Antenna
I am using this antenna mounted with a simple bracket on an apartment window to pick up a strong signal from a local motel about ¼ mile away. This has allowed my invalid friend who is short of cash to have computer TV, internet-based telephone and email at almost no cost.

I have this antenna mounted on an old camera tripod with a simple bracket. It works great to find suitable wifi signals in my temporary apartment while I am at my out of town job site. .I get such strong and stable signals with this antenna that I can use this setup for my internet telephone calls. Since this type of tall panel antenna gathers its signal by compressing the vertical beam, its pointing angle is less critical, making it easier to find signals.
While I’m not involved with these things professionally any more, my background with an M.S from MIT in antenna design helps me make the best choices for my needs.
